#30-Kyoto202603 End

Exhibition Period: Wednesday, March 4, 2026 – Monday, March 9, 2026

Location: Art Gallery Kitano 1F

My 2026 solo exhibition began in Kyoto. Last spring, it coincided with the cherry blossom season, and there were too many people, so this year we decided to hold it at this time. Early March in Kyoto is still quite cold, and there aren't many international tourists, so the city center felt quite deserted on weekdays. This exhibition (my last spring solo exhibition at this venue) was held with great enthusiasm, as the plans for next spring's solo exhibition in Kyoto were still up in the air.

Once again, a horizontal tapestry was installed at the top of the main window. I was worried that its subdued colors might make it inconspicuous, but it blended well with the display. Many people entered after seeing the window, so I believe it had some effect, but perhaps I could enhance the "hook" elements to draw even more interest.

During and after the exhibition, I can't help but wonder, "Was this good enough?" or "Could I have done more?" These concerns are an inevitable part of exhibiting and perhaps the most important element. To make people stop and come inside—I must spare no effort for that. I believe that daily effort and earnestness in setting up will convey my message, and I intend to continue pursuing that.

I also added newly framed books and arranged them neatly as usual. First-time viewers were surprised to see books framed and also that I made the books myself.

This time, I also prepared glass beads for visitors to take home. By beautifully reheating the fragments created during the production process, I gave them a new purpose that brings joy to everyone. Many foreigners passing by also took some home. I believe they traveled to various countries. If beauty and thoughtfulness could unite the world...

The world is currently in turmoil. Japan feels like it hasn't emerged from the shadows since the time of COVID. In such darkness, I believe our "favorites" are the reliable lights. Sports, entertainment, art... While not always necessities, they are things that illuminate our lives. I hope my work can be a light for everyone, and I will continue to create good works and exhibitions.

My next solo exhibition in Kyoto will be in September. It will be my last one at this venue. Please come and visit.
