The main body of a mushroom is the "hyphae" that spread underground or on wood, and the "fruiting body" that emerges above ground to produce spores is what becomes a mushroom. Among the mycelium, there are some fungi that do not produce mushrooms, and these are collectively called molds. Taxonomically, mushrooms are clearly different from plants, and are actually closer to animals.
