[Japanese Tree Frog – Rain and Poison –]
Frogs croak at night during the breeding season, but Japanese tree frogs, as their Japanese name "amekaeru" (rain frog) suggests, croak even during the day when it is raining (or about to rain). They are called "amanaki" (rain cry) or "raincall." Although they are a familiar and cute frog, their skin is poisonous. They have acquired this ability to survive the fierce competition for survival.
