Pandas, a species highly adapted to herbivorous diets, are classified as bears. The short structure of their intestines and appendix is a disadvantage for herbivores, and when they eat foods such as bamboo, the efficiency of nutrient intake is low. To compensate for this by increasing the amount of food, pandas spend most of their day eating bamboo. Perhaps in the course of evolution, pandas, who descended from carnivorous bears, avoided conflict and chose to evolve by eating bamboo and other foods that other animals do not eat.
