[White Wolf – Guidance –]
There is a legend in the "Nihon Shoki" (Chronicles of Japan) about a white wolf, or magami. When Yamato Takeru (Emperor Yamato Takeru) was on an expedition to the east and got lost in a thick fog, a white wolf suddenly appeared and guided him to safety. Magami is a deified wolf (Japanese wolf) that lived in Japan. It was believed that magami protects good people and punishes evil people, and has a strong power to ward off evil, especially fire and theft, and has been depicted on votive plaques and other items.
