[Cat – an old friend]
Recent research has revealed that the ancestor of the domestic cat is the African wildcat (a subspecies of the European wildcat), which lived in the deserts of the Middle East about 131,000 years ago. The cats leave grains alone, only preying on pests and insects that damage them, so the interests of both animals are aligned, and cats that protect the grains have come to be treasured as beneficial animals.
